What usually goes wrong, and what we do about it.
Tile fails from underneath. A cracked floor is a subfloor that flexed; a leaking shower is a membrane that was never there. Portland's older homes have out-of-level floors and framing that moves with the seasons, so we spend the money on substrate: leveling, decoupling membranes, bonded waterproofing that is flood-tested before tile goes on.
Then the part you see: large-format tile laid out from the center of the room, stone templated off the installed cabinets, hardwood laced into existing floors so the patch disappears.

Do you do tile on its own?
Yes, for bathrooms, kitchens and floors, though most of our tile is inside a larger remodel. Either way the prep is the same.
Curbless shower: can my floor do it?
Usually, if we can recess the framing or build up the surrounding floor. We check joist direction and depth before promising it.
Quartz or natural stone?
Quartz for kitchens that get used hard; marble and granite when the look matters more than maintenance. We will show you slabs, not samples.
Can you match my existing hardwood?
Nearly always. We lace new boards into old and refinish the whole level so there is no seam.
