What usually goes wrong, and what we do about it.
Swapping a window in the same hole is straightforward. Most of what we are asked to do is not: cutting new openings for light and view, enlarging a slider into a fourteen-foot glass wall, replacing a front door and its rotten sill together. Those jobs need an engineered header, careful flashing back into the existing weather barrier and siding repair that disappears.
We scope window and door work as part of the wall, not as a product install, so the opening is dry and square for the life of the house.

Can you add a window where there is not one now?
Yes. That is most of our window work. It involves a header, a permit if the wall is bearing, and flashing the new opening into the existing wall properly.
Fiberglass or vinyl?
Vinyl costs less; fiberglass holds up better, paints, and can be made in larger sizes. On most remodels we specify fiberglass.
Do you replace just the front door?
Yes, and we usually find the sill or subfloor beneath it needs attention. We price that as a contingency so it is not a surprise.
How long is lead time?
Four to eight weeks for most manufactured windows and doors; we order them before demo so the wall is never open longer than necessary.
